 Fitness Drop-In at Monterey Centre

Join our drop-in fitness classes and work out to motivational music with qualified and enthusiastic instructors. All classes include a warm-up, cardiovascular, strength, and cool down components. The strength portion of the Mild and Gentle classes are done using chairs for assistance.

Monday, Wednesday, Friday:
Moderate 9-9:45am, Mild 10-10:45am, Gentle 11-11:45am

 Programs

Courses:

The Centre offers courses for adults, 50 years and over during the daytime and 19 years and over during the evenings and weekends. Seasonal program guides include courses on Arts and Crafts, Computer, Cooking, Dance, Bridge, Gardening, Home, Music, Languages, Photography, and Special Interest. You do not have to be a member to participate in the courses but members may register at a reduced rate for daytime course.

Membership:

Memberships are available for adults 50 years and over who wish to participate in the following activities at Monterey Recreation Centre: Trips, Meals, Special Events, Free Income Tax and Blood Pressure Services, over 35 Special Interest clubs and Volunteer Opportunities. In addition, members are eligible for extended parking, registration at reduced rates for daytime courses and a monthly newsletter. Annual memberships are available at a very reasonable cost. Join the 2500 other people who have made the decision to become a member. You will be glad you did!

Day Trips:

Seek the exhilaration of sights close to home! We offer several day trips at competitive prices.
All trips are escorted by Centre staff.

Meals and Special Events:

Monthly events include teas, dinners, dances, barbecues, movies and more. Homemade lunches and goodies are baked right on the premises. The annual Oak Leaves Bazaar and Rummage Sale are community favourites.

Clubs:

The following is a sample of the 35 club activities available to members, most have little or no additional fees: Art, Drama, Quilting, Scriveners, Silversmithing, Woodcrafting, Bridge, Whist, Cribbage, Billiards, Carpet Bowling, Scrabble, Darts, Golf, Mah Jong, Table Tennis, Computers, Family History, French, Photography, Financial, Hiking, Choir, Noteables Musical Variety Ukulele and many more.

Rental and Banquet Facilities:

Monterey Recreation Centre is ideal for wedding receptions, family gatherings, meetings and parties. Our rooms can accommodate small groups, or functions up to 200 people. There is plenty of free parking available. A full banquet package, including menu choices, is available if you would like further information.

Food Services:

  • Pantry - Serving fresh baked goods, coffee & tea
  • Fern Cafe - Serving entrees, soup & sandwiches
  • Cashier - Handling cash transactions
  • Henderson Muffin Nook - Serving coffee & muffins
  • Dishwashers

Reception:

  • Answering phones & inquiries
  • Working with staff members at reception

Host/Hostess:

  • Greeting people in lounge area and at events

Club Leaders

  • Leading one of our many clubs
  • Cards/games program assistant

Special Events:

  • Setting tables
  • Decorating
  • Selling tickets
  • Making sandwiches
  • Serving refreshments
Health Services:
  • Blood Pressure Clinic
Income Tax
  • Helping individuals with income tax returns
  • Folding & stapling our monthly newsletter, brochures, etc.
